Implant Dentistry at Barrett Family Dental

Implant Dentistry in Red Bud, Illinois

A dental implant is a very predictable solution for replacing a missing tooth. Dental implant restorations offer several advantages compared to traditional methods for tooth replacement including: maintaining quality bone, implants are non-invasive to surrounding teeth and they can often be restored in several different ways to provide the best fit and function for the patient. Dental implants contain three separate parts that when attached together represent the natural tooth shape, size, and function.

At Barrett Family Dental we believe the success or failure of a dental implant starts at the foundation level. For this reason, we refer patients who are interested in dental implants to a dental specialist who can place the body of the dental implant into the bone. Once healing has occurred and the implant integrates into the bone you will return to our office where the process of “making the tooth” begins. Through a series of appointments and laboratory fabrication, a new dental crown and abutment are delivered that will closely match your natural tooth.

Alveolar Ridge Augmentation

Ridge augmentation is a dental procedure that helps recreate the natural contour of the gums and jaw that may have been lost due to a tooth extraction or for another reason. The procedure involves placing bone graft material in the area of deficient bone, which can be accomplished in several different ways. Once bone is placed the gum tissue is placed back over the defect and secured using sutures. Ridge augmentation is not medically necessary, but it may be required for dental implant placement or for esthetic purposes. Dental implants require bone to support them, and when there is insufficient bone, an implant cannot be placed successfully. The bone used for ridge augmentation comes from an accredited tissue bank, preventing the need (in most cases) to take bone from other areas of the patient’s body.

Sinus Lift

Sinus augmentation, also known as a sinus lift or sinus floor elevation, is a procedure that helps correct the problem of insufficient bone in the upper jaw for dental implant placement. Sinus augmentation is a common surgical procedure performed by periodontists to get adequate bone to support dental implant placement. Following the surgical procedure, you will typically need to wait 6-12 months for the surgical site to fully heal; however, in some cases, the implant can be placed at the same time as the sinus augmentation. It is important to consult with your periodontist to determine if sinus augmentation is necessary and to discuss the specific details and options for your individual case.

Dental Implant

A dental implant is a small, titanium post that is surgically placed into the jawbone beneath your gum tissue. It serves as a replacement for the root of a missing tooth and provides a stable foundation for a tooth restoration. Dental implant surgery is a procedure that replaces tooth roots with a metal, screw-like post and replaces damaged or missing teeth with artificial teeth that look and function much like real ones. Dental implants can be used to replace a single tooth, multiple teeth, or even an entire arch of teeth. Implants require the same care as your natural teeth, including good oral hygiene and regular dental visits.
