Mouth Guards & Night Guards in Red Bud, Illinois

Your teeth are constantly at risk of being worn down. Examples include: constant stress or sports related trauma. If you notice any symptoms, it may be time for a check-up!

Mouth Guards for Sports

Mouth guards are a type of protective device that is fitted to the teeth and sometimes covering the lower lip. They protect teeth and gums during contact sports such as football or rugby, or even non-contact sports like gymnastics. Mouth guards can also help relieve the soreness in your jaw that comes from playing for a long time.

Mouth Guards for Teeth Grinding

You can protect your teeth and mouth with a customized mouth guard. It is made of dental material by our dental professional Dr. Elizabeth Barrett and specifically designed for your teeth/mouth.

As dental care providers, we’ve seen a lot of tooth wear and damage related to stress, especially recently. Thinning teeth, tooth cracks, and broken teeth have become more common.

One of the contributing factors for this is stress. High-stress leads to teeth grinding which is a form of wear and tear on one’s teeth. Teeth aren’t like nails or hair and can’t grow back once they’re worn down, so it’s important not to forget about your oral hygiene. The most important action an individual can take is to reduce their level of stress, which will reduce the rate of tooth damage.

Prevention

It’s important to work on and fix tooth damage as soon as possible. Early treatment of cavities and sensitivity, in addition to preventing decay, can help prevent gum disease which is very painful and may result in loss of teeth.

Gum disease will cause the tooth to break down and it will become sensitive to hot or cold foods. The best thing you can do for your teeth is keep them clean, brush twice a day, rinse with mouthwash, use dental floss, and schedule regular dental visits.

If you have been experiencing stress in your life, it is important to get your teeth evaluated for a protective guard. Prevention is easier than trying to treat the damage after it is done. We always evaluate your teeth for signs of tooth wear or trauma at your regular exams so please let us help keep your teeth protected.
