A frenectomy is a surgical procedure that involves the removal or modification of a frenum, which is a band of connective tissue and collagen that joins two areas in the mouth. There are several types of frena in the mouth, including the lingual frenum, which connects the tongue to the bottom of the mouth, and the superior and inferior labial frenum, which attaches the lips to the gums above the top two front teeth and below the bottom two front teeth, respectively. A frenectomy may be recommended to correct a frenum that is causing a lip-tie, tongue-tie, diastema (gap between front teeth), gum recession, pain, swelling, or tenderness when brushing. The procedure involves surgically modifying the frenum position to increase the range of motion of the tongue or lips, or completely removing the frenum to improve esthetic appearance or to help prevent recession.
They took excellent care of my toddler for his very first dentist appt! The hygienist was extremely patient and explained everything was doing which made a nervous toddler feel more at ease! The front desk girl was so sweet and took him back to get a little prize when he was finished! We will definitely be back!
